JMT Mono Championship Round 16
SNETTERTON 300 9 October 2016

Once again, Tony Bishop took pole despite, according to his post quali interview, an off on his fastest lap. Ben Cater was 5th due to “old wets because we thought the track would dry out. We thought the same on Saturday and were wrong then too.” For quotes, Mr Cater is truly the Mark Webber of Mono.  Chris Hodgen  moved up to 2nd on the grid, but on the start it was “2017 champion” Ashley Dibden who took the lead and kept it. In this race, Tony Bishop pushed hard from the start. Too hard, it seems, because on lap 6 he had an off which lost 25 seconds and dropped him to 5th.  This promoted Chris Hodgen to second and Ben Cater to 3rd for the championship. David Gillett pushed Ben hard, being little more than a second behind for most of the race, for 4th.  25 seconds behind Tony came 6th man Hayden Edmonds, who spent most of the race in a very close and exciting group with Russ Giles, James Drew Williams and Jacky Liu until  Russ spun on lap 7, losing 20 seconds and dropping to 11th in class., leaving James 7th and Jacky 8th, a little behind James. James Harris had also been part of the group but dropped out on lap 8.

Mike Hatton had to work hard for 9th starting from the back, and made up places until joining David Gambling behind 2000 leader Kevin Otway. Although Kevin retained the 2000 lead,  their order was reversed on an exciting last lap to finish Mike, David and Kevin.

Nigel Davers had 2000 pole ahead of Kevin Otway, but in the jostling for position of the first lap as the lower qualifying F3’s moved up, Kevin passed Nigel.  Nigel then had a spin on lap 3, dropping behind Terry Clark and Mat Jordan. By lap 7 he had caught and passed Mat, and, after Terry suffered a mishap on lap 9 he passed him too. Mark Drew had qualified 4th but lost out to Mat on the first lap. He regained the place by lap 4, and began to chase Terry Clark. As they both had a slow last lap, though I didn’t see anything happen I can guess. Hey ended sandwiching Mat Jordan, 3rd and 5th in class.   Kevin Couling was a little faster than Taylor McVean and gradually drew away for the last 2 places. Marcus Sheard dropped out from Classic leaving  Will McAteer alone in the class.
