Champion Interview by email: 1600 - Adrian Heath

1600 winner Adrian Heath answers in his inimitable way. Some of the answers might be tongue in cheek.

When did you start racing?
I started in 2012 with TFR, Brands Hatch Indy was my first ever race.

What previous success have you had?
I have never raced competitively before but used to mess about at clay pigeon with a rotax max kart

Why did you decide to do Monoposto?
Mainly because Nigel was racing with Geoff at Team Fern Racing, that, and I had been to a few races to watch TFR during 2010 and 2011 seasons and was itching to get involved.

What mods did you make to the car?

None myself.. But we have front and rear wings, other mods were purely for comfort...I did mount the GoPro to the car - does that count?

Are there any others you would have liked to make?
DRS, Movable wings, Turbo button, canopy for wet races, KERS..

Which was your most enjoyable race?

Most enjoyable is a hard one to answer, as I have had many enjoyable races.. But the one that has to stick out this year is Castle Combe, coming 3rd overall in my local race was spot on.. Especially after dropping in to the test session on my way home from work on the Thursday to see both Dave Parkinson and PJ taking full opportunity of learning the track and getting a good set up.(Parky? Tuning set up??!!! - asst ed) But.. it rained on race day so level playing field, I finally got the tyre call right for the first time all year..some people didnt!

Is there anybody you especially enjoy racing / beating?

Well naturally it has to be seasoned Pro Mr Parkinson and young whippersnapper Luke, both quick and also challengers for the title early on in the season..

Would you have done anything different?
Won more races, Ordered in a takeaway at the Silverstone BBQ. Got the tyre choices correct more frequently.

"Cadwell bit hard"

Which is you favourite circuit and why?
In the UK it’s a tossup between Cadwell Park , Brands GP and Donnington Park , challenging circuits that will bite you if you get it wrong ( Cadwell bit hard)
In Euro it’s Spa Francorchamps, simply magical place..

How big is your team on the day?
Geoff, Joanie, Sarah, and recently Kev and Neil have been helping out. (That's bigger than Marussia F1- asst ed)

Do you work on the car yourself or get somebody else to do it?

El Capitan Geoff looks after the car. I try to help but am no mechanic.

Are you glad you did Mono?

Absolutely, It’s a great club and great fun.

Would you like to race anything else? (Within Mono, or any other series whatsoever, budget no limits.)

I aspire to one day own a JKS / SPEADS. I would also like to have a go in an F3 car after sharing the track with them on a couple of occasions and witnessing the speed that they pass me. In a 1600 it is simply awesome!
